Choosing Light Over Noise: A Commitment to Staying Positive
Lately, I’ve noticed something about myself: I’ve become susceptible to negativity. Everywhere you turn, in the news, on social media, and even in casual conversations, it feels like there’s an endless supply of bad news and grim outlooks. For someone like me, who thrives on positive energy and forward momentum, it’s been a real turn-off.
As I continue interviewing some incredible people for my upcoming (and hopefully epic) book, which will launch in late 2025, I’ve had the privilege of diving deep into the minds and habits of what I call the "2%." These are the individuals who think differently, live differently, and succeed differently from the majority. They are the builders, creators, and innovators of our world. And believe me when I say they don’t get bogged down by the negativity that floods our everyday lives.
Many of these individuals have asked for anonymity or have shared deeply personal stories, and out of respect, I will keep those private. However, I can tell you this: the 2% can stay unaffected by the negativity around them. They move through the world with a certain grace, a resilience that shields them from the noise.
One of the most striking differences I've observed is their relationship with information. The 2% read far more than they scroll. They fill their minds with knowledge, strategy, inspiration, and wisdom, not endless feeds of drama and despair. When they consume media, it’s intentional, not passive. They don't waste precious hours arguing about polarizing topics or chasing fleeting trends. Their focus is razor-sharp, and it shows.
Another fascinating trait? True success is quiet. Contrary to what social media might have you believe, the truly successful rarely flaunt their wealth. They don’t plaster their wins all over the internet or seek validation through likes and followers. Their confidence comes from within, not from digital applause.
I’m immensely grateful that these incredible individuals have been willing to share their experiences with me. Every conversation feels like I’m being handed a secret blueprint for wealth, not just for a life rich with purpose, peace, and true joy.
One universal theme emerging from these discussions is protecting your energy. The 2% understand that money, time, and opportunities are all important, but energy is the real currency. They don’t squander it arguing, complaining, or obsessing over things outside their control. They invest their energy into creating, building, and nurturing.
Reflecting on these lessons, I remember one of my long-time guilty pleasures: reading Town & Country magazine. I’ve been a subscriber for nearly 29 years now. It’s been a small, personal escape, a window into a world where style, grace, and achievement quietly coexist. One of the dreams on my ultimate bucket list is to one day be featured in that magazine, and every time I open a new issue, I’m reminded to think bigger, dream higher, and live with class.
The latest issue is an article about a serene Caribbean island that’s not flashy or famous but is beloved by real movers and shakers. It’s not the trendy destination people brag about on Instagram. Instead, it’s a place to gather your thoughts, recharge, and return to the basics of living a powerful, intentional life. That is the life I’m committed to building, one of substance, not surface.
Speaking of substance, I’m currently enjoying Will Packer’s Why Not You. It's entertaining, enlightening, and a powerful reminder that greatness is available to anyone bold enough to claim it. I’m feeding my mind with positivity, ambition, and gratitude and blocking out anything that pulls me away from that path.
So, here’s my commitment to myself and you if you choose to join me: I will continue to avoid the trap of endless negativity and polarizing noise. I will focus on crafting a life of abundance, wisdom, and peace that I can proudly leave as a legacy to my grandchildren.
To the 98% still caught in the endless scroll of toxicity and chaos, I say this with love: there’s a better way. You don’t have to marinate in the muck and mire of unclean thoughts. You can choose light, growth, and being part of the 2%.
I’m choosing it every single day. And I’m inviting you to do the same.
