When the Lie Travels Faster Than the Truth

The Truth Versus the Lie

It is a bit ironic that I am writing and sharing this on social media, but it has been on my heart to address. Lately, I have noticed how quick people are to pounce on someone, to take them down, or to seek some kind of retribution simply because they feel wronged. The disturbing part is that many seem almost excited by it.

A glaring example of this is the recent situation involving Reverend Marvin Winans. A short 30-second clip circulated online where he was seen addressing a woman who had donated $1,200. The clip made it appear as if he was diminishing her contribution. In truth, he was simply correcting her for standing in the wrong line, not criticizing her generosity. The local television stations in Detroit posted the full context and clarified the situation, but of course, that version did not go viral.

It convinces me of something I have long believed: people often prefer the lie because it is more entertaining than the truth. Someone once said this, and it continues to ring true. We live in a climate where many seem ready to destroy careers, reputations, and lives over clips that may be misunderstood or taken out of context.

Guarding Against Negativity

I believe the environment we surround ourselves with has a powerful influence. If you spend time around those who carry negativity, eventually you will absorb it yourself. Just like being around someone with the flu increases your chances of catching it, diving into a pool of negativity will cause you to become negative too.

That is why I am actively working on creating a platform built on positivity. This project is designed for a specific group of people, and though I am intentionally vague right now, it is because I have learned the hard way that oversharing invites unnecessary attacks. Some will use any information they can against you, regardless of your intentions.

Two of the collaborators on this upcoming project, which I expect to launch around mid-2026, are individuals who are not well-liked by certain communities. Both men have written books that stirred controversy, yet their work has also helped many people find peace, positivity, and yes, even financial success. One of them advised me not to use my real name for fear of public backlash. My wife, however, encouraged me to stand proudly behind the project and use my real name. Her wisdom reminds me that if a storm comes, she will be right beside me, steady and supportive.

Choosing Positivity

The lesson here is clear. In a world so quick to tear others down, we must make a conscious decision to build others up. Let us be positive in our walk, positive in our communication, and positive in our actions.

Scripture says: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13.

My prayer is that we all overflow with hope and remain grounded in truth, no matter what the world chooses to amplify.
